“I never thought I’d come back to New York.  I have a lot of bad memories here.  It can be an ugly place.  My ex-husband lives here.  On September 11th I was on the street below the second tower.  So there are things I’d just prefer not to remember.  But recently my mother got sick and I came home to take care of her. I was in a bit of a rut at the time.  I’d fallen away from my passions.  I was just working to pay the rent.  And one evening I was walking by the river and I passed a place called Hudson River Community Sailing.  They offered free sailing lessons.  I don’t know why I stopped.  I was intellectually convinced that sailing was not for me.  I was getting older.  I was out of shape.  But I decided to give it a try.  And I got hooked on it.  I got kinda obsessed with learning to sail.  I remember the first time I was out there alone.  It felt amazing.  I was in the middle of the Hudson, the wind was blowing, I could see the whole city, and my hand was on the tiller.  It seemed like I was doing something impossible.  I’m not white.  I’m not male.  I don’t own a boat.  I don’t even have money.  But I’m in New York City and I’m fucking sailing.”

FLCL is coming back to Toonami!

animeboston:

Naota, Haruko, and lethal guitars are coming back to the anime realm. Yes, the popular yet bizarre series FLCL is making a comeback after over a decade.

The first—and for the longest time only—six episodes of FLCL arrived in the U.S. beginning in 2003. Its unique story and characters quickly made it a popular entry on Adult Swim’s Toonami block.

With Toonami itself coming back to the air, it seems only fitting that FLCL also makes a return, with not one, but TWO seasons planned for 2018. The project was announced back in 2016 and the first new season, “FLCL Progressive” will premiere on June 2. The second season, “FLCL Alternative” will not air until later on in September 2018. When all is said and done, we will be entering 2019 with 12 new episodes of FLCL to enjoy, provided the Medical Mechanica hasn’t yet destroyed the galaxy.

"I’m going to be patient on this journey of self improvement. I accept that I will have good days and bad days, but I need to go through both in order to sustain this growth."

Why are women expected to dilute and tone down their personalities to be more appealing to men. Men are never told that they might struggle to get married because they are ‘too much’. They are never too opinionated, too confident, too educated, too passionate, too strong willed… it’s always women who must chip away at their selves to become more soft and easy to stomach and pliable.
